Are Oreo Cookies Peanut-Free?

Many people have been contacting me regarding the Oreo cookie asking if these cookies are peanut-free. I am personally allergic to peanuts myself and I can tell you that I have been eating Oreo cookies and am still alive. Oreo cookies do not contain peanuts according to the labelling and ingredient list on their package. Below is the actual ingredients marked on the Oreo Cookie package:
INGREDIENTS: SUGAR, ENRICHED WHEAT, COCONUT OIL, SHORTENING, VEGETABLE OIL AND MODIFIED PALM WITH TBHQ AND CITRIC ACID OR VEGETABLE OIL SHORTENING (VEGETABLE, MODIFIED PALM, MODIFIED PALM KERNEL), COCOA, CORN STARCH, GLUCOSE, SALT, SOYA LECITHIN, SODIUM BICARBONATE, ARTIFICIAL FLAVOUR
As per any warnings of any allergy information, it is not provided. If you want to be absolutely sure you can always give KRAFT a call at the following number:
1-800-668-2253. I am sure that their customer service will gladly look into the right information for you.
Oreo cookies do contain coconut oil. In the United States, coconuts were classified as of 2006 to be a tree nut. The Canadian government do not classify coconut to be a tree nut. However, it is best that you or your child is to get tested and see if there is an allergy to coconuts too.
It is always best to take the necessary precautions and to check with the company that produces any product and give them a call. Most companies do have a 1-800 number or something that you can contact them by. As I always say, if you’re not sure don’t try it!
It can be a little annoying sometimes to take the extra step but you may be saving yours or your child’s life. For now, the Oreo cookies have no peanuts or nuts in the ingredients, so I will now put the Oreo cookies into the Peanut Free Product Bible

My daughter has a severe tree nut peanut and sunflower allergy and she has never once seemed to have any sort of reaction while mother’s cookies are making her swell up and break out.
Hi Jodi,
Is it possible that maybe she is reacting to another ingredient? I have been allergic to tree nuts and even more so to sesame seeds. Sometimes by not doing it on purpose some things get mixed up. I’ve been allergic since I was 5 and I am now 28. It’s been a tough ride with a few attacks along the way and my list of allergies seems to be growing.
My advice is that I think maybe your daughter should get tested on other foods. I was tested for 17 things at once and found out I was allergic to not only nuts but shellfish too. It may be something in the cookies or an ingredient that is making her react.
